The Happy Hollows live at The Guest Apartment

<lj-embed id="136" />

One of our favorite picks of CMJ, The Happy Hollows, were seen multiple times out and about NYC by our staff. So naturally we were psyched to have them come through the Guest Apartment, and test out their metal as a band by taking away their electricity. Luckily, we only took it away literally; the band had all of its energy in tact when translating their songs.

Check it out on http://www.baeblemusic.com/concertvideo/The-Guest-Apartment/The-Happy-Hollows.html

The Temper Trap "Sweet Disposition"

<lj-embed id="135" />

It's been an extraordinary year for Australian, pop wonders, The Temper Trap. They've placed this very song on the 500 Days of Summer Soundtrack, snagged themselves standout sort of status at this past month's CMJ Marathon, recently inked what I imagine is a pretty sweet deal with Glassnote Records, and are racking up a long list of accolade for their recently released album Conditions. In short, they've exploded like a supernova.

Check it out on baeble http://www.baeblemusic.com/musicvideo/TheTemperTrap/SweetDisposition.html

An Interview with Ross Jarman

Last week I interviewed Ross Jarman, drummer of the punk infused pop rock band, The Cribs, and chatted about their new album, the upcoming tour, and exchanged a few anecdotal Halloween stories over a transatlantic shoddy cell connection. Fresh off a few gigs in Korea, the band was taking some time off in their hometown of Wakefield, England before heading out on the second leg of the tour to promote their fourth studio album, Ignore the Ignorant.

The Cribs are a family run business of sorts, and up until this album the band consisted of Ross on drums and his older, twin brothers Ryan and Gary on vocals and guitar duties. Ross told me their that hometown is so small that the only reason it's a town at all is thanks to the presence of their Cathedral. Evidently it's a British rule of thumb, "anywhere with a Cathedral gets to be an official town". Since we were on the topic of religious institutions, Ross also shared with me his past Halloween festivities, "some friends threw a gig in an old chapel down by the river, it was really creepy, there was loud music and lots of beer". Evidently, the music was too loud or the beer was too plentiful because there will be no such soiree this year. I told Ross he should try some good old-fashioned trick or treating but he told me Yeah, I'd probably get arrested.

The three brothers have officially added a new member to the lineup this year, Johnny Marr, aka guitarist of a little band called The Smiths. Ross told me they met Marr at "the Glastonbury Festival and have been jamming together for the last couple years". For a band made up of three brothers I asked if there were any sibling rivalry issues that needed to be resolved in front of their new, no relation member. Ross assured me they're "all grown up" and even though they "know how to push each other's buttons" they work hard on keeping the peace. Sounds like a dream come true: traveling around with your brothers, playing rock n roll, hanging out with music legends, but Ross told me his favorite part about their job is "playing live shows". He said even though this time around they added some interesting touches in the studio with recording methods, for the most part they record their tracks live. I asked him what he was most pleased with on Ignore the Ignorant and he told me "I'm proud of the little details on the new album, right down to the album artwork", and he cited "City of Bugs" and "Save Your Secrets" as his personal favorites on the record. Ignore the Ignorant debuted in the UK at #8 making it their highest-ranking album to date.

The Cribs just wrapped up their UK tour and will be jumping over to this side of the pond for a few dates in LA and New York in mid November. More US dates are in the works, and Ross assured me they put on quite a live show, so definitely keep an eye on that, and check out their new album out now.-amelia trask

Check it out on baeble http://www.baeblemusic.com/featuredarticle/an-interview-with-ross-jarman-of-the-cribs

<lj-embed id="132" />

One of the truest testament's to our beloved local scene, New York has nurtured an incredible number of fearless musicians and bands, providing supportive communities open to embracing those who dare dabble in experimental song craft. In recent years, that's meant local hero status (and international acclaim) for many of our artists (you know the names), pushing rock experimentation to exciting new levels, thrilling music fans the world over with incredible, avant garde touches, and challenging listener's perspectives of what a song can be along the way. Yet through the sheer volume of these acts, it's sometimes easy to forget the beauty of those amongst us who embrace the classic roots of American rock...which is why we're so happy to have recently been introduced to The Cringe.

Check it out on baeble http://www.baeblemusic.com/concertvideo/Pianos/The-Cringe.html
This is a contest!

The first two people to send an email to info@baeblemusic.com with the subject "Send Me To The Moon!" will score a free pair of tickets to the show! The third will be taken to space via audio-rockets, and will receive a free copy of Sunshine. Don't forget to check out the Baeble recap of the show...we are going to be there too. Yehezkely's - a singer who, contrary to her name suggests, is actually an adorable, blunt banged beauty in a delicate, pretty dress - voice is sweet and perfect, ushering a sense of lingering nostalgia and the slightest touch of golden melancholy as she performs. Under the Highline Ballroom's bright lights, and flowing through a modern sound system, the band assumed a slightly mightier presence than their fragile, snowflake beauty of their recorded efforts. Regardless, their pretty melodies and Tim's eventual use of an adorable voice distorter on top of the microphone added a new level of audience inner "awww."
